## Core concept

The Edgy uses an inverted potentiometer model. The user reports arousal in real-time by turning a knob from 0 to 100. As arousal goes up, the algorithm reduces device intensity inversely: velocity drops, stroke range narrows, hold pauses increase. This creates a continuous push-pull that maintains the edge without crossing it.

When playing a funscript, the same principle applies via Arousal Response Ratio (ARR): the script's intensity is modulated in real-time so the same .funscript file feels different every session.

## Glossary

### Funscript
A funscript is a JSON-formatted file containing timestamped position data for interactive sex toys. Each point defines a position (0 to 100) at a specific timestamp in milliseconds. Funscripts pair with a video so the device moves in sync with the content.

### ARR (Arousal Response Ratio)
The modulation system used by The Edgy to dynamically alter funscript playback based on real-time arousal input. As arousal increases, the algorithm reduces device velocity, narrows stroke range, and increases hold pauses. ARR makes any static funscript adapt to the user.

### HDSP
The "high-density streaming protocol" used by The Handy API v2 to receive position commands at ~7-8 commands per second. Each command moves the device to an absolute position in millimeters.

### HSP
The "haptic streaming protocol" of The Handy API v3, which buffers a sequence of move points client-side then plays them in sync with a video timeline. Used by The Edgy for funscript playback.

### Intiface Central
Open-source application by Nonpolynomial Labs that bridges 750+ Bluetooth sex toys via the Buttplug.io protocol to compatible apps like The Edgy. Supports Lovense, Kiiroo, We-Vibe, Satisfyer, and many more.

### Buttplug.io
Open-source software library and protocol for controlling intimate hardware. Created by Kyle Machulis (qDot). Powers Intiface Central. The Edgy uses Buttplug.io WebSocket connections to talk to Intiface.
